Sabah has always been my favorite place to visit in my home country, Malaysia. You can find a combination of pristine beaches, flora and fauna and the great Mount Kinabalu. I went to Sabah more than a few times for work and vacation with families and friends. The one that I would like to share with you is my 7 days in Sabah with my friends, where we decided to explore some places that we have not discovered before.

Back then, we were planning to hike Mount Kinabalu but due to some complications with the guide, we decided to explore different parts of Sabah as we have bought our flight tickets earlier.

In 2017, there was a small earthquake from time to time a few months before we fly off to Sabah and we were informed one of the participants that follow our guide that we canceled on died during the hike because of the earthquake (that was shocking news). I guess there’s a reason why we were destined to not go for Mount Kinabalu hike.

Anyway, back to our exploring trip to Sabah, the trip summary as per below:

The itinerary was just simple and slightly relaxing. We get to see Mount Kinabalu from the paddy field, the river and up close at Hounon Ridge Farmstay & Camping.

CAR RENTAL.

For the car rental, you can contact directly Van Sabah Kiter at +60145559294, which was the local car rental that we used for or you can choose to use famous websites such as Avis and Hertz. You can also walk in and book at the Kota Kinabalu Airport.

ACCOMMODATION.

KOTA KINABALU – Fat Rhino Hostel has changed to Fat Rhino Hotel at www.agoda.com and I don’t think they have a dorm room anymore. You can always check out the rest of the hostel nearby if you are planning to go for a budget trip.

MANTANANI ISLAND – As for Mantanani Island, you can click here for more details. They have a place for 2 people and up to 6 people (dorm) per room with different packages and prices.

KOTA BELUD – The last immaculate accommodation we had was at Polumpung Melangkap which was one of the best campsites along the river overlooking Mount Kinabalu. You can reserve everything here. Do make your reservation early as the campsite will usually be packed during the holiday season.

Checking domestic holidays in Malaysia might help you with your planning. I hope by sharing my budget and itinerary, I will be able to encourage you to visit the pristine Sabah. I will share with you more places to discover in Malaysia soon! Do keep an update on my website. Thank you for reading!
